Inside Milk

Polish milk supply continues to grow steadily

10 August 2021 - Stef Wissink

Polish farmers have also increased milk production in June this year. The production figures, which have been rising for years, therefore continue unabated, after a temporary dip was noticeable in the spring.

Polish milk production did not start the year too well. In January, supply was around the 2020 level and in February it even fell significantly below. The suspicion that this stagnation was caused by the cold winter weather seems to be correct. Significant growth was recorded again in the following months and this trend continued in June.

Plus about June
A total of 1.077.053 tons of milk was supplied in June. That is approximately 7.500 tonnes more than in June 2020 and represents an increase of 0,7%. Compared to the 5-year average, growth is somewhat higher: in June 2021, about 25.000 tons more milk was produced than the multi-year average this month. That's about 2,5% higher. The spring peak in milk supply was clearly behind us in June. Compared to the month of May, milk production decreased by approximately 50.000 tons. In May, 1.127.000 tons of milk were produced.

Strong second quarter
After the weak first quarter, milk production in Poland picked up steam again in the second quarter. In each of the 3 months the milk supply was clearly above the same month in the previous year. In April the increase was 1,9%, in May 1,5% and in June 0,7% compared to last year's levels. It therefore appears that the temporary stagnation this spring was an incident.
