As in the Netherlands, milk production in Germany will be lower in June than in the same month last year. In France, production is at a slightly higher level.
Compared to production in May, supply in both countries was considerably lower. The spring peaks are behind us. In Germany, 2.710.019 tons of milk were collected, in France the volume was 2.036.007 tons of milk.
Germany falls below last year's level and long-term average
The German milk supply has been at somewhat lower levels than previous levels for almost the entirety. Milk production in June also falls below the 5-year average. Compared to June 2020, milk production was about 35.000 tons lower (-1,2%). Compared to the 5-year average in June, the volume was about 25.000 tons smaller (-0.9%).
Although milk prices also rose sharply in Germany (May: €0,3483 per kilo, 4% fat and 3,4% protein, figures from the German Ministry of Agriculture), the costs for, among other things, feed were also considerably higher, which may not have enticed livestock farmers to produce a lot of milk.
French production at similar levels
French milk production was lower in the first quarter than last year, but has since recovered strongly. Production was already higher in April and May (April 0,8% and May 3,5%) and in June the supply also appears to be above last year's level.
About 14.000 tons more milk was supplied to the processing companies than in June 2020, an increase of 0,7%. Milk production was also slightly (11.000 tons) above the 5-year average of 2.025.035 million tons.
