Dairy processor Ausnutria has seen its results for the first half of 2021 improve significantly. Despite low birth rates in important export markets such as China, the producer of mainly baby milk powders managed to grow its sales volumes considerably.
Ausnutria, which processes cow's and goat's milk at 5 locations in the Netherlands, saw its turnover increase by 10,7% to approximately €560 million. The growth was mainly driven by higher sales of products produced from cow's milk. The turnover of this division increased by 16,9%. The company speaks of increased competition in the market for goat's milk products. The turnover of this division increased by 2%. This was announced during the presentation of the company's half-year figures.
The production of milk powders for babies (from cow and goat milk) is Ausnutria's most important branch and accounts for 87,6% of turnover in the first half of this year.
Investments in marketing and research pay off
According to the company, the significantly increased turnover is due to the large amount of energy invested in bringing products more to the attention of consumers. It also continues to invest in imitating the nutritional properties of breast milk as closely as possible. With its marketing and research efforts, the company says it can adapt well to the changing market conditions for baby food.
The higher turnover also ensures a strong improvement in the financial results. Although margins were slightly lower, higher sales resulted in a 23,8% increase in EBITDA. This amounted to more than €6 million for the first 2021 months of 108.
Outlook
Although the development of the corona pandemic may influence consumer spending behavior for a longer period of time, the company considers itself to have strategically positioned itself well and looks forward to the future development of the company with confidence. Moreover, new Chinese government policy, which should encourage more births, can contribute to a positive development of results in the longer term.
