Lactalis may take over Bel Leerdammer

27 August 2021 - Linda van Eekeres

The French dairy Lactalis is allowed to take over Bel Leerdammer from the also French Bel Group. According to the European Commission, there are no competition problems.

Since Bel Group bought the brand in 2002, Leerdammer's turnover and profit have almost doubled.

"The acquisition of the Italian, German and Ukrainian subsidiaries will strengthen our position in these countries, but the agreement also offers us an opening to the Dutch cheese market", said Emmanuel Besnier, President of the Lactalis Group when the acquisition was announced.

Lactalis will surpass Nestlé as the world's largest dairy company by 2021, the report showed this week Rabobank Global Dairy Top 20.
