The fact that chunk prices are slightly lower this month does not come as a complete surprise given the developments on the grain market in the first half of July. It is not unusual for grain prices to drop somewhat around the harvest and, as an important raw material, this also affects the chunk prices, with some delay.

Chunk slightly less expensive
Sow pellet pregnancy has become €0,10 cheaper and now costs an average of €29,55 per 100 kilos according to data from Wageningen Economic Research. Sow pellet lakto is €33,95 per 100 kilos this month, or €0,15 cheaper than in July. Starter/transition pellet and pork chunks have both also fallen €0,15 in price and now cost €32,70 and €28,25 per 100 kilos respectively. This week baby piglet pellet amounts to €40,05 per 100 kilos. A month earlier that was €40,10 per 100 kilos.

There is more of a stabilization with beef chunks. Standard pellet A, beef bull pellet and Rose clover pellet have remained the same in price as last month at €28,45, €29,20 and €31,75. Cutting maize core chunks have become €0,35 cheaper compared to July and now cost €39,40 per 100 kilos. The exception in the list is the Protein-rich chunk B. It has become €0,05 more expensive and now costs €30,45 per 100 kilos.

Compound feed price indicator
From the second half of July, wheat prices in particular have found their way back up. Corn and soy prices remain relatively flatter, but the harvest has yet to start in the Northern Hemisphere. The Boerenbusiness Compound feed price indicator predicts that the stabilization/decline in chunk prices is temporary and that prices will rise again next month.
