The dairy trade between the EU and the UK has not been running optimally since Brexit, but according to trade organization Eucolait, it threatens to become even more difficult in the coming months.
This is reported by Eucolait, the European umbrella organization for the dairy trade. In recent months, this trade has already seen a lot of delays due to additional administrative procedures and associated delays. The gradual introduction of certificates and inspections from October 1 in Great Britain will entail additional obstacles and costs, Eucolait predicts.
According to Eucolait secretary Jukka Likitalo, the import and export problems affect the entire dairy trade, but the organization singles out cheese because it is the most valuable product. Their imports have fallen sharply.
To prevent further disruptions, efforts must be made to strengthen mutual cooperation and find pragmatic solutions, says Eucolait. There is nevertheless a risk that new, smoothly running procedures will take some time to be implemented.
