Arla is looking for new member dairy farmers in the Netherlands. The Scandinavian dairy cooperative needs extra (organic) milk to meet the growing demand, according to a statement.
“In 2022 and beyond, Arla is committed to further growth of its strategic brands, including Arla organic and Melkunie,” said Mark Boot, director of Arla in the Netherlands, Belgium and France. The growth in brands requires expansion of the milk lake.
Dairy farmers from all over the country can register. Arla won't say how many dairy farmers (or volume) they are looking for. There is currently insufficient insight into this, a spokesperson said when asked.
The fact that Arla is sending out the invitation specifically today (October 1) is remarkably timed. FrieslandCampina's member dairy farmers could indicate until the end of last month whether they still want to leave this year. Arla's lure is not an isolated one. Also Joy Joy recently announced that it was looking for new suppliers, while also DOC Cheese is in discussion with dairy farmers.
Arla is relatively small in the Netherlands and has about 100 suppliers. Spread over the 7 countries in which it is active, the dairy cooperative has 9.700 members. Arla is one of the top 10 milk processors in the world and claims to be the largest producer of organic dairy worldwide.
