The Dutch milk supply reached its lowest point in years in September. Both the supply in kilograms of milk and the fat production have not been this low since the end of the quotation.
This is apparent from the latest supply data from the RVO. The milk supply fell to 1.06.4517 kilos. The fat production also reached a low point that has not been reached for a long time with an amount of 46.090 tons. To arrive at comparable or lower volumes, one has to go back to spring 2015, the time before the end of the quotation.
Unfavorable weather and depressing margins
The figures presented now provide a further explanation for the sharp rise in dairy prices since the end of the holiday period. Incidentally, it is not only in the Netherlands that the milk supply was unprecedentedly low. Milk supply in other European countries also fell sharply after the summer, due to a combination of unfavorable weather conditions and pressured margins. It did not pay to strongly stimulate milk production.
Only in recent weeks have there been signs of an improving milk production and greater availability of milk on the spot market.
