Stellapps, a dairy startup in India, has raised $18 million in an investment round. The lion's share of this amount comes from the Dutch animal feed group Nutreco, which sees great opportunities on the Indian dairy market.
India is the largest producer of milk worldwide. According to Nutreco, 570 million liters of milk are produced in the country every day, mostly by small family farms with a few cows. Research shows that production will grow by 2026% until 6.
Knowledge sharing platform
In terms of sustainability and efficiency, the Indian dairy sector still has a lot to do and Nutreco sees opportunities in this area. Stellapps is a digital platform on which dairy farmers can gain knowledge in the field of nutrition, animal health and productivity. The company is on the World Economic Forum's list of 'technology pioneers'.
Nutreco's management is pleased with the participation. CEO Fulco van Lede says that there are great opportunities to take the growing dairy sector in India to a higher level. Nutreco has been investing freely in recent years anyway. More than ten investments have been made worldwide since 2019. Including in Asia, South America and the United States.
