The new Hochwald dairy near Cologne is almost ready. According to the German dairy cooperative, this milk processing site is the most modern in all of Europe.
The new factory is located in Mechernich in North Rhine-Westphalia, just over an hour and a half drive from the border at Roermond. The location will be taken into use from the beginning of next year. This can be seen as a nice boost for the dairy sector in Northwestern Europe.
This week there was already a foretaste with a symbolic first milk collection. The intention is that from January 800 million liters will be processed annually into, among other things, UHT milk and cream.
No delay despite setback
At Hochwald they are delighted with the new factory. The management speaks of the most modern dairy factory in Europe that is also energy efficient. The equipment was supplied by the German process technologist GEA, also known for the milking robots.
The building plans were forged about four years ago. Despite setbacks from corona and the severe flooding in the region earlier this year, the delivery has not been delayed.
