Italian farmers continue to increase the milk volume considerably. Since May this year, the milk supply has recorded significant pluses, and significant growth was also recorded in September.

The Italian milk supply has fallen seasonally slightly in recent months, but not nearly as sharply as in other years. In September this year, 984.400 tons of milk were produced. That is 29.000 tons less than in August, but almost 53.000 tons more than in September 2020. This means a growth in milk production of 5,6%. In August, milk production increased by 8,7% compared to a year earlier.

Long-term growth
The Italian milk supply may be growing very strongly this year, but an upward trend in production figures has been visible for years. Compared to the five-year average, milk supply was approximately 2021% higher in September 5,9. A plus of approximately 55.000 tons.

Cheese exports stimulate price and production
The Italian dairy sector benefits from a strong export position in cheeses. Cheeses are the most important export product for the country's dairy sector. The exported volume grew almost 100% in ten years.
