A remarkable entrant is emerging in the dairy trade. The Rotterdam company Cefetra, a global player in the grain market, will now also focus on trading dairy commodities such as butter, cheese and milk powder.
Under the banner of Cefetra Dairy, the trading house has formally started in the dairy trade from 1 November. The step is being taken to introduce more diversification into the strategy. Cefetra sees great opportunities in this regard, given that the demand for dairy is strong in many parts of the world. “This suggests enormous market potential,” said Klaus Josef Lutz, CEO of the German BayWa Group, of which Cefetra has been a part since 2013. Lutz indicates that Cefetra is especially strong in markets where demand exceeds production.
Former director Hoogwegt Cheese
Cefetra CEO Daan Vriens says that the foundation that has been laid from the grain trade forms a good basis for entering the dairy market. The new branch of Cefetra is led by Peter ten Kate, previously director of Hoogwegt Cheese for twelve years. He knows the ins and outs of the dairy industry and is therefore expected to make the new initiative a success.
