The Netherlands Enterprise Agency also uses the annual data on the milk supply of companies to monitor phosphate production and, in collaboration with the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority, selects companies where there is a risk that more phosphate is produced than for which there are rights.
Individual dairy farmers can choose whether or not they give permission to their processor to pass on this data. It is unclear how data from refusers can end up at the Netherlands Enterprise Agency.
Annual check
According to a spokesperson for the Netherlands Enterprise Agency, milk processors must submit this data to the service annually, after which, together with the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA), we will look at where things appear to be incorrect. Based on this initial analysis and any findings from other inspections, the NVWA selects companies for further investigation.
The dairy companies provide their data in February of the following year. The Netherlands Enterprise Agency cannot therefore provide a selection of companies to be inspected to the NVWA until early March at the earliest.
