Rouveen Kaasspecialiteiten and Aeres Farms are entering into a partnership for the development of sustainability projects, research and knowledge exchange, international study projects and internship opportunities. Rouveen also purchases organic milk from Aeres.
In addition to supplying organic milk, there is a great need for knowledge development and exchange, according to Aeres. Rouveen Cheese Specialties has its own sustainability program with 'Rouveen Simply Sustainable'. The cooperative wants to use the knowledge and practical experience of the educational institutions to further develop its sustainability program in the areas of, among other things, herb-rich grassland and extending the lifespan of dairy cattle. There are opportunities here for both the research and education teams of Aeres, but also for the member dairy farmers of Rouveen Cheese Specialties. For example, it wants to offer workshops to its members and there are various internship opportunities for students from Aeres MBO and Aeres University of Applied Sciences.
Result orientation attractive
For Rouveen Cheese Specialties, Aeres' practical, results-oriented attitude is very appealing as a collaboration partner, says director Klaas Hokse of Rouveen Cheese Specialties.
Only the milk from the Aeres organic pasture farm in Dronten will soon go to Rouveen. This concerns approximately 700.000 kilos of milk, from 85 cows with an average milk production of 8.200 kilos of milk. The conventional milk goes to FrieslandCampina.
Very wide cheese range
Rouveen Cheese Specialties is a cooperative with 240 member livestock farmers, of which approximately a quarter have an organic farm. The cooperative works with dozens of different milk flows, which are processed into a very diverse range of cheese specialties that are sold in more than 160 countries worldwide.
