While the monthly milk supply in Belgium is still lagging behind that of the previous year, the milk supply in Wallonia is now rising sharply again, according to supply data for this part of the country.
Flanders is traditionally the region with the largest dairy farming. Most companies are concentrated there and the largest increase in milk production has also taken place in recent years.
This year, milk production will be slowed down in large parts of the EU, mainly due to the combination of less (high-quality) feed and higher costs for concentrates. Flemish dairy farming also suffered from this. It is not entirely clear why the milk supply in Wallonia is now picking up strongly again.
Proportionally, a larger share of organic milk is produced in Wallonia than in Flanders.
Dairy farmers in Wallonia themselves feel that production is still difficult and that they are still dealing with the after-effects of the floods a few months ago.
