Rotgers: 'Don't make assumptions in nitrogen, but measure'

31 December 2021 - Redactie Boerenbusiness - 2 comments

Retrieving so-called fair data is the tough job for investigative journalist Geesje Rotgers in the nitrogen dossier. The Dutch government can handle its calculation models itself, but these are disastrous for agriculture. Moreover, it is not data that other governments, such as the European Commission, request. The derogation request recently rejected by Brussels is a striking example of this.

In the third episode of Nitrogen Dialogues, Rotgers talks with presenter Klaas van der Horst about her experiences in Dutch nitrogen politics over the past year.

If you really want to "fall through the basket" as a sector, you have to start measuring. Not one low-emission floor functions properly. Valves in the floors work on gravity. The result is that thick manure gets stuck and that the valves are cracked. There is no point in doing maintenance, because thick manure is present every day. And perhaps the worst: producers of the floors are pulling their hands away from it. Solve it yourself! Very frustrating.

How far could we sink that Measuring is Knowing is questioned.

Our intellectual culture through hard work on knowledge and skill has been thrown away for comfortable truths of damning hypocrisy and arrogance in a simple picture.
