Arla wants to reduce even more CO2

Dairy cooperative Arla is increasing its CO2 reduction target from 30% to 63%. Between 2015 and 2020, it has already reduced emissions from its operations by 24%. Arla is now taking this one step further by combating CO2 emissions, particularly in production and logistics. With this Arla wants to comply with the Paris Climate Agreement, which aims to limit global warming to 1,5°C.

With a new target to reduce emissions from production, logistics and energy consumption by 2030% by 63 compared to 2015, Arla is doubling its previous target of 30% reduction. Between 2015 and 2020, the dairy cooperative has reduced emissions from its activities by 24%. The follow-up plans consist of a transition to fossil-free fuels for the milk tankers and distribution trucks. There will also be a shift towards renewable power and energy-efficient solutions for the company's production sites and offices.

Global warming
The C2019 reduction target at farm level set in 02 will remain unchanged at 30% per kilogram of raw milk. The new 2030 target has been approved by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi). It considers it consistent with the reductions required to limit global warming to 1,5°C, as agreed in the Paris Climate Agreement. Arla claims to be one of the first dairy cooperatives in the world to achieve this goal. 

Arla Foods continues to invest in sustainability activities throughout the value chain as part of the new business strategy Future26. The dairy cooperative wants to increase its total investments for sustainability by 40% to €4 billion.
