The Dutch milk supply increased slightly further in December 2021, but viewed over the whole year, there remains a significant backlog compared to 2020. This is apparent from the latest supply data from RVO.
Dutch dairy farmers delivered 1.120.139 tons of milk to the processors in December, which is just under 4% less than in the last month of 2020. Fat production in December was also more than 51.105% lower than in the same month at 4,1 tons. month in 2020. The data for the last month of the year can also be used to draw up the balance for the whole of 2021. Ultimately, Dutch milk production amounts to 13.599.405 tons. This is 360.228 tons less than for the whole of 2020, or a decrease of 2,6%.
Fat and protein contents slightly higher
Calculated in kilos of fat and protein, the supply decrease was more limited, because the average levels last year were slightly higher than in 2020. Compared to 2020, more than 11.000 tons less fat was supplied last year, a decrease of 1,85%. Because the same trend occurred in neighboring countries, milk prices increased increasingly from September 2021. This made it worthwhile for dairy farmers to feed the cattle and increase milk production, on top of the seasonal development.
