Autumn rally gives milk price 2021 extra plus

The last months of 2021 have given the average milk price of the seven largest processors in the Netherlands an extra plus. This is apparent from comparative figures in the Boerenbusiness Milk price comparator. What is the increase compared to 2020?

The basic milk price for the whole of 2020 amounted to an average of €33,61 per 100 kilos excluding VAT. For the whole of 2021, this amount amounted to €37,01 per 100 kilos. This does not include any subsequent payments.

Those who improved the most last year were Arla members in the Netherlands. That is a small group, but they earned €4,67 per 100 kilos more than in 2020 and received a basic price of €36,82. Lactalis Leerdammer's suppliers improved the least. For them there was only an increase of €2,34 on the basic milk price. Last year, the Dutch Milcobel members received a basic milk price of €36,60 per 100 kilos.

The processor with the highest basic milk price in recent months was Vreugdenhil, but calculated over the entire year, the basic milk price was highest at Cono Kaasmaker (37,80 compared to €38,13 per 100 kilos).

The cooperative from Beemster also paid the highest milk price for all affiliates: €42,63 excluding additional payment. That is almost €2,10 more than FrieslandCampina paid as maximum milk price.

At Royal A-ware, individual farmers could earn the highest milk price for the time being: €43,37 per 100 kilos. This is mainly thanks to the Albert Heijn milk flow, which carries an extra surcharge of €5,00 per 100 kilos.

In particular, it was the series of price increases in the last months of 2021 that gave milk prices an extra boost compared to 2020. Before that, prices rose much more gradually.
