Although the trade in phosphate rights is still very quiet, the first cases will be done in 2022. The price level is slightly above the prices paid in week two in other years.
Some parties have not yet traded at all, other intermediaries report that the first small lots have been sold. Prices are quoted between €138 and €140 for 100% usable rights. Yet almost everyone reports that buyers are very cautious and wait and see. The DCA phosphate rights quotation for week two amounts to an average of €139.
Eyes on politics
Many eyes are focused on political developments. Buyers first want to have a better idea of what the exact political course will be in the nitrogen dossier. The phrase by former Agriculture Minister Carola Schouten in December, about the possibility of introducing animal rights to replace the current phosphate rights system, also makes buyers cautious. The trade therefore does not expect much to change in the market situation in the coming period.
