In addition to regular cheese with the PlanetProof quality mark, FrieslandCampina also wants to offer North Holland PlanetProof cheese. This cheese from North Holland milk has to be produced in Lutjewinkel and has added value in the market. FrieslandCampina is looking for about eighty farmers for this.
Participants can supply certified milk from May 1 this year. Like FrieslandCampina's other PlanetProof (PP) suppliers, they can receive €2,50 extra milk money per kilo. That is for the extra effort they make for the PP process. The FrieslandCampina cheese factory in Lutjewinkel is completely geared towards North Holland milk and, based on this, will soon make three types of cheese: the traditional North Holland cheese with a protected designation of origin (red seal), virtually the same cheese but under the Lutjewinkel brand name. and North Holland cheese under the PP quality mark and private label for retail.
PlanetProof cheese separately channeled
FrieslandCampina is estimated to have more than 400 million kilos of North Holland milk annually. Most of this is processed into PDO cheese. The idea is to produce about 10% of this under the PP quality mark. The milk for this must be canalized separately. FrieslandCampina does not want to say what additional cost the PP cheese from North Holland yields. In previous years, subsidiary Zijerveld sold North Holland PDO cheese with an average premium of €1,00 per kilo on top of the price of regular natural cheese. The regular Planet Proof cheese can be produced in Steenderen and also Workum. The fresh PP dairy comes from the factory in Rotterdam.
