The Intelligence and Investigation Service of the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) arrested five people on Tuesday afternoon in an ongoing investigation into a manure fraud case in the Netherlands and Belgium.
The charge is that the people in question cheated with the mandatory manure samples and the associated administration. It is also suspected that unauthorized products were administered in a Dutch co-fermenter.
The NVWA suspects that Dutch and Belgian companies have joined forces in this case. That is why the Dutch and Belgian authorities have joined forces in a so-called Joint Investigation Team (JIT). They also carried out searches in North Brabant and Belgium last February.
A spokesman for the NVWA says that the five Dutch suspects are still under insurance the day after the arrest. The detainees also work for companies in the fertilizer sector. There are no farmers.
