Polish dairy farmers have sprinted in the last months of 2021. After the milk supply had been stable for a while, compared to the previous year, milk production was increased again in December.
The mild winter weather, especially in the second half of December, has had a positive effect on production figures in Poland. The increased milk prices may also have tempted livestock farmers to invest in extra feed, and thus in milk yield. Polish livestock farmers delivered 1.031.620 tons of milk to dairy processors in December. That was 15.000 tons, or 1,5%, more than in December 2020.
With the increase in milk supply in December, dairy farmers in the country have resumed the long-term upward trend. Compared to the five-year average, the milk supply for the month of December was 32.000 tons higher (+3,2%). Growth was quite modest throughout the year. Approximately 12.515.410 tons of milk have been delivered to dairy processors. That is 58.000 tons more than in 2020 (+0,5%).
Growth ahead
Market analysts predict growth in milk production over the next ten years between 15% and 50%. This would make Poland (after Germany and France) the number three milk producer in the European Union, a position that the Netherlands still occupies.
