Cono Kaasmakers keeps the (advance) milk price for January equal to that of December. The cooperative cheese group from Westbeemster is therefore the only dairy processor to do this for the first month of this year.
As a result, Cono is not immediately the party with the highest payout price at the beginning of the year, according to the data Boerenbusiness milk price comparator. The maximum milk price for Dutch standard contents is €47,20 per 100 kilos. Yet the cooperative still pays the highest average milk price for all members. In terms of basic milk price, it is in the middle range in January.

Cono starts the new year as a middle group in terms of basic milk price.
The development of the milk price at Cono reflects the fact that the cooperative is a brand player and not a bulk producer. In the latter group, the price goes up and down much more and faster, depending on how the daily markets develop. Brand players such as Cono, including Beemster cheese, always lag slightly behind in rising markets because they are tied to long-term sales agreements. They must make up for the deficit at a later date.
