Dairy trading platform DAO in New Zealand hands

11 February 2022 - Klaas van der Horst

Digital dairy trading platform Dao.eu is completely taken over by the New Zealand NUI markets. DAO was set up in 2017 from Trigona Dairy Trade, with a software license from NUI. Both parties hope that the move will be an impetus for further expansion of DAO.

Dairy producers and traders can offer and buy all kinds of dairy raw materials on the trading platform. There is a constant supply of products.

Tenders new development
Tenders have recently been added, with larger volumes of product. At the end of last year there was a successful large tender of 1.200 tons of Gouda from Flanders Milk. This week saw another successful tender, selling 700 tons of Schreiber Foods Cheddar curd at competitive prices. There will be more tenders of this type in the near future, says DAO.

Even more divorce
At the end of 2021, DAO had 92 actively trading participants on the platform. It hopes to recruit more in the near future. The acquisition by NUI could help with this, because DAO.EU will soon be 100% separate from Trigona Dairy Trade, says Rik Loeters, director of Trigona. Despite the fact that there was already a strict separation between the activities of Trigona and DAO, the ownership was perhaps experienced as hindering by some parties, he says.

NUI has also developed digital platforms for other parties. The acquisition will take effect on April 1.
