The Dutch dairy industry not only received about 2,5% less milk last year, but has also slightly shifted the range of 'commodities' in the meantime. For example, less whole milk powder came out of the factories, but more skimmed milk powder and more condensation.
This is evident from a recent overview RVO Netherlands. In percentage terms, the largest changes were visible in the production of whole milk powder. Production of this fell by almost 32% to 120.011 tonnes, RVO notes. On the other hand, production of skimmed milk powder increased by almost a quarter to more than 88.200 tons. Meanwhile, condensed milk production increased by almost 18% to just under 390.000 tons.
Shifts are also visible in other commodities. For example, approximately 70.000 tons less drinking milk was produced from the Dutch milk supply and 20.000 tons of cheese. On the other hand, about 6.500 tons more cheese was produced than in 2020.
With the current figures, RVO does not provide data on products such as cream, skimmed milk concentrate and whey. The lower milk supply continues to set the tone on the dairy market this year. About January it was a 2,7% lower supply reported than in January 2021. The same problem exists in neighboring countries.
