LTO Nederland has appointed Erwin Wunnekink (51) chairman of the Dairy Farming Department. The former chairman of the FrieslandCampina cooperative will start work on 1 March. The LTO board and the department are pleased with the arrival of this experienced director, they report.
Wunnekeink resigned in September after being chairman of the FrieslandCampina cooperative for three months. When it was said that he did this voluntarily, later he himself said that it was not of his own volition. In his own words, Wunnekink did not want to stand in the way of administrative innovation at FrieslandCampina, he stated. When he left, he also indicated that his administrative involvement in dairy farming was not yet over as far as he was concerned. That now appears to be happening.
Asked to enter
Wunnekink succeeds Wil Meulenbroeks, who indicated at the end of 2021 that he wanted to hand over the baton after more than five years. He is honored by the nomination. Wunnekink acknowledges that it may be surprising that he has become Meulenbroeks' successor. "I was asked if I wanted to participate (with the application round). I'm glad I got it after that."
Wunnekink was a cooperative director and supervisory director at FrieslandCampina from 2009 to September 2021. He is also a member of the Supervisory Board of ForFarmers. LTO chairman Sjaak van der Tak is also delighted with the appointment. "In Erwin we have a director of calibre, who represents the interests of our members. We are pleased that he is willing to use his expertise, experience and sharpness to work with our dairy farmers for a sector with future prospects."
Opportunities in a changing environment
In his new position, He will naturally have to deal with FrieslandCampina again, but he does not see that as a problem himself. According to him, it is only part of his job. De Haarlonaar mainly sees it as a challenge to look for opportunities for dairy farming in a strongly changing environment. He hopes that he will not only have to deal with nitrogen, but also with things like the farm to fork strategy.
Not everything can and measure well
He does see that a lot of attention is being paid to the elaboration of area processes, where many challenges for dairy farming come together. Wunnekink indicates that as far as he is concerned, livestock farming should then indicate that not everything is possible and that decisions about livestock farming must also be clearly based on hard measurement data.
In order to achieve results for dairy farming, Wunnekink also wants to address the divisions in dairy farming, and to this end work together with all parties.
