More farmers apply for TVL in fourth quarter

21 February 2022 - Linda van Eekeres

In the last quarter of 2021, the agricultural sector has so far received €94 million in corona support from the TVL (Reimbursement Fixed Lasten). A total of 5.920 agricultural entrepreneurs submitted applications, according to figures from the RVO. That is more than in the previous four quarters. In the third quarter of 2021, 3.846 entrepreneurs from the agricultural sector applied for support. Not all applications have been completed yet.

The agricultural sector is in second place in the number of applications. Only catering entrepreneurs applied for TVL more often (16.690). Also in the fourth quarter of last year, pig farms applied for the aid most often (1.557). So far, €43 million has been spent there in the third quarter. The number of dairy farmers (648) is also striking.

Of the 5.920 TVL applications in Q4 last year, 99 were rejected and 3.778 have now been granted. 480 have now received money from the dairy farmers, €5,8 million in total. €2,3 million went to veal calf farmers. So far, €43 million has been paid out to pig farmers, of which €14 million has been paid to pig breeding and multiplication companies. 555 of the potato growers and growers of other root and tuber crops applied for support. 263 have (already) received these, for an amount of €4,6 million. Just under €7 million went to growers of grains, pulses and oilseeds and more than €2 million to the cultivation of vegetables in the open ground.

To all sectors up to and including Q3 €31 billion NOW and TVL
CBS has also published figures on the corona support up to and including the third quarter of last year. From March 2020 to September 2021, entrepreneurs in all sectors have received a total of approximately €31 billion in aid to offset wage costs and fixed costs. The catering industry received the largest share with 19%.

Up to and including the third quarter of 2021, agriculture, forestry and fisheries were allocated €554 million in fixed costs (TVL) and €173 million in wage costs through the Temporary Emergency Bridging Measure for Employment (NOW). In terms of TVL award, the sector occupies fourth place (behind catering, trade and culture, sports and recreation). Of the corona support that the agricultural sector received up to and including September 2021, most (69%) went to companies with between two and nine employees. 23% of TVL support went to sole traders. About 8% went to farms employing ten or more people and less than 1% to companies with between 50 and 250 employees.
