The Belgian dairy industry published a cream quotation for the first time this week and will continue to do so from now on. According to the Belgian Confederation of the Dairy Industry (BCZ/CBL), the publication results from European requirements.
De regulation The basis for this is from 2019. The implementation into practice often takes a lot of time. It seems remarkable that Belgian dairy is going to publish a cream quotation, but that DairyNL does not do this in the Netherlands. According to a spokesperson for ZuivelNL, this has to do with characteristics of the Dutch dairy industry, where product flows are different than in neighboring countries.
For milk and dairy products
With regard to dairy and dairy products, the European Union wants to have (additional) market data for whey powder, skimmed milk powder, whole milk powder, butter, cream, drinking milk and commodity cheeses (such as Gouda and Edam foil cheese and mozzarella). Member States must provide dates if national production accounts for at least 2% of production in the European Union or, in the case of commodity cheeses, Member States where the cheese type accounts for at least 4% of total national cheese production.
However, there are important exceptions. If there are only one to three companies in a Member State for a particular product, then no prices need to be communicated. This applies, for example, to FrieslandCampina and Hochwald Foods. They produce a lot of condensation, but do not have to report prices. This is because prices would then be too easily traceable to the individual producer.
The obligation to quote also applies to other agricultural products, such as grains and meat.
