25 February 2022 - Klaas van der Horst

Edwin Wunnekink, former chairman of FrieslandCampina, is surprised at the fuss that has arisen among a number of members of the cooperative about his reimbursement of expenses at his departure. But he thinks it's fine that there is something about it in the annual report.

Wunnekink left after a turbulent period in September last year on as chairman† He held this post for only a few months. "I have nothing to hide," Wunnekink says. It concerns €65.000 for the costs I incurred for an employee and a few other things, such as tax." The expense allowance was the reason for a number of members to start a discussion on Melkweb, the website for FrieslandCampina members. became that a chairman with an annual fee of about €230.000 is paid well enough.

Wunnekink sees the compensation as part of the normal course of business. "And, what is the fuss about? If you see what payments are made in other cases..." Rumors that there would also be legal proceedings between the former director and FrieslandCampina, Wunnekink refers to the realm of fables. We've got this done and when it's done, it's done."
