Dairy giants scale down in Ukraine

2 March 2022 - Wouter Baan

Danone, Nestlé and Lactalis will stop production in Ukraine in whole or in part, because the Russians invaded that country last week.

Nestlé indicates that all three factories have been shut down. The food group has approximately 5.000 employees there and their safety is logically the highest priority. Danone has also closed two factories in the country. In Russia, Danone has eighteen factories, but they are still operational. The French Lactalis is also active in Ukraine. The company reports that one of the three factories has been shut down.

A Ukrainian dairy giant has also partially ceased its activities. Ukrproduct Group, which is listed on the London Stock Exchange, has closed one factory completely. Other factories are partially up and running. The company reports that the milk collection has been seriously disrupted by the Russian military actions. In addition, the curfew is an obstacle.
