Lely withdraws from Russia and Belarus

4 March 2022 - Wouter Baan

Lely immediately ceases commercial activities in Russia and Belarus. The Russian partners are also critically screened. The company wants to distance itself from Russia that has started a war in Ukraine.

The decision to stop the sale of milking and feeding robots in Russia and Belarus was not an easy one, the company said in a statement. Lely also wants to do justice to the food supply and animal welfare in these countries. On the other hand, the violence that Russia exercises in Ukraine is more serious, so the company is withdrawing anyway.

Lely does indicate that existing customers in Russia and neighboring countries, who are not on the sanction list, will continue to provide parts. The robot builder also states that partners in Russia are being critically screened. Due to the rapid growth and modernization of dairy farming, Russia is an interesting market for the Dutch robot giant. The company has approximately 10 locations on site.
