There are few special features to report on the roughage market. Prices are largely unchanged. Left and right there is talk of a slightly calmer demand for silage maize, but the indicative prices remain the same for the time being at €72,50 per tonne. The demand for other roughage continues at a normal level and prices for meadow hay (€185 per ton), straw (€130 per ton), fescue (€145 per ton) and silage (€70 per ton) remain largely unchanged.

Although the market is marked by stability, parties indicate that traders will pass this on in the prices of end products if prices for energy and fuel continue to rise. This may result in some increasing costs when purchasing roughage in the coming period.

By-products requested
The hectic pace in the raw materials market is also affecting the market for by-products. Now that the prices of almost all raw materials are through the roof, by-products are in high demand. Beer spent grain takes a new step up from the already historically high levels. Suppliers indicate that existing customers can be supplied well, but that if the market continues to be overstrained, there may come a time when new customers can no longer be accepted. The indicative price for spent grains increases on average by €0,10 per percent dry matter to €3,35 per percent dry matter. However, parties live from day to day and prices can change quickly.

In addition to spent grains, prices for wheat yeast concentrate and wheat starch products are also rising sharply. These products are already in short supply. It ensures that many customers try to purchase some extra product, which creates even more demand. Potato products are also rising in price. Traders describe the market as very hectic and restless and expect little change in this situation in the coming period.
