Rabobank has created a new position to further contribute to making agriculture more sustainable worldwide. The position 'Global Head of Food System Transition' will be filled by Bas Rüter from 1 April. Rüter was director of Climate & Sustainability at Rabobank for the past ten years.
In the new position, Rüter will work on 'making agriculture worldwide more sustainable, in which Rabobank is involved as a major international food & agri bank', the cooperative bank reports in a statement. "Our food system is under pressure. We need to produce more healthy food for a growing world population, but with more attention to nature and climate. I am very excited to work with the team to support customers in making agriculture more sustainable , from the Netherlands to Brazil and from the United States to Australia," he said in the statement.
The successor to Rüter's current position is also known. Rabobank has appointed Aafke Keizer as Chief Sustainability Officer. Keizer has also been working at the bank for some time and has further experience at FrieslandCampina, where she led the operating company Domo (including infant nutrition and medical nutrition) as Managing Director. She also worked as a consultant at McKinsey. "I look forward to working with the team on the next steps to accelerate on sustainability. Tackling climate change is an opportunity for companies and organizations."
