Who pays the highest organic milk price?

29 March 2022 - Wouter Baan

A-ware pays out the highest organic milk price in March, closely followed by the Scandinavian dairy cooperative Arla. This is evident from the new organic milk price comparator which today (March 29) by Boerenbusiness launched for its subscribers.

At €58,03 per 100 kilos, A-ware pays out the highest organic milk price for March. Arla follows in second place with a comparative milk price of €57,59. FrieslandCampina is in third place with €54,18 per 100 kilos. The organic March milk price of Vreugdenhil Dairy Foods is not yet known.

Like the usual milk price, organic milk prices are also rising, although the trend is less convincing. For example, Arla has increased the milk price for April by €1,19. FrieslandCampina announced yesterday that it would increase the organic payout price for the coming month by €1,25 to €55,43. The prices are calculated with an annual supply of 1 million kilos and the standard Dutch fat and protein contents.

Insight into organic milk prices
With the Organic Milk Price Comparator from Boerenbusiness Organic dairy farmers are now also given the opportunity to gain insight into the milk price differences per processor. Conventional dairy farmers have been using the Milk price comparator op Boerenbusiness† The tool can also be helpful for conventional dairy farmers who are considering switching to organic. The milk price comparator offers comparative insight into the payment prices per processor and thus also insight into the expected return.

Compared to the total dairy farming in the Netherlands, the organic sector is still small. The organic dairy sector has been showing considerable growth figures for years. While total dairy farming in the Netherlands has been declining for years, the number of organic farms increased by 2021% in 4,5, according to figures from Statistics Netherlands. About 3% of the more than 15.0000 dairy farms in our country are certified organic.
