News price rally

Aldi significantly increases meat and dairy prices in stores

1 April 2022 - Wouter Baan

From next Monday, April 4, Aldi Germany will historically raise the prices for dairy and meat. The discounter is thus anticipating the rapidly rising purchase prices. A price increase of no less than 30% is planned for the butter price, a spokesperson tells the West German General Newspaper.

Aldi speaks of price increases in meat and dairy that have never occurred before in recent history. The butter price jumps out. It remains to be seen how much the supermarket chain will raise prices. A spokesperson speaks of significant price increases in meat and dairy. A surcharge of no less than 30% is planned for butter.

Aldi Süd and Nord are usually the price setters. The discounters expect other German supermarkets to increase their prices quickly. Although meat and dairy prices have risen sharply due to scarcity, Aldi does not expect empty shelves to arise. The price increases in meat and dairy are not isolated. In mid-March, Aldi already announced that prices in all product groups are going up. This concerns a total of more than 400 articles.

It is not known whether Aldi Netherlands also has price increases in mind. The spokesperson could not be reached for comment Friday afternoon.
