Milcobel and Laiterie des Ardennes (LDA) have increased their milk prices for successively April and March. The latter and A-ware increase their distance from Milcobel.
With the latest step, Milcobel increases the Belgian standard milk price to €46,50 per 100 liters of milk. This is the sixteenth increase in a row, the company indicates. The new step is possible because dairy prices remain high on international markets. The cooperative wants to continue to translate this into a better milk price for its member suppliers.
The milk price at the legal levels in Belgium translates to a milk price of €49,20 at real levels of 3,5% protein and 4,3% fat and an annual delivery of 1,3 million liters.
Milcobel between Arla and A-ware/LDA
Milcobel therefore pays approximately €2,00 more than Arla (€47,18), but lags behind A-ware and LDA. The first pays a milk price for April of €48,00 for legal contents and €50,95 for real contents and 1,3 million kilos. That is €1,50 more than Milcobel pays.
The Walloon competitor LDA is lagging behind in terms of payment rhythm and has only just set a milk price for March. However, with a standard price of €47,00 and a price at real contents and 1,3 million kilos per year of €49,70 per 100 liters, this is higher than Milcobel's April price.
These are snapshots, and both Belgian cooperatives now only pay an advance price, but for the time being Milcobel appears to be having some difficulty keeping up with the pace of price increases that LDA and A-ware are maintaining.
