Organic milk prices have also increased in recent months, but have risen much less sharply than the usual milk prices compared to their long-term average. Still, the average increase in March was not bad.
From the Boerenbusiness Organic Milk Price Comparator shows that the average organic milk price increased by €2,20 per 100 kilos in March from €54,34 per 100 kilos to €56,54 per 100 kilos. That is a larger increase than was seen with the average of the current milk price. That went in March with €2,05 per 100 kilos upwards.
Weighted average slightly lower
Yet there is a catch here. The weighted average rose slightly less. This is because the two largest parties in organic dairy farming in the Netherlands - Eko-Holland and FrieslandCampina - increased their milk prices less than the rest. FrieslandCampina in particular took a fairly modest step.
Organic milk prices seem to be at an impressively high level with an average price of more than €56,50 in March, and this is historically true. Yet the difference with the average meadow milk price as of March is only €8,50 per 100 kilos.
Relatively many submitted
Compared to previous years, this is little. In 2021, the organic milk price was about €12,50 above the conventional milk price (pasture milk) and in 2020 it was €12,00 per 100 kilos. Relatively speaking, organic dairy farmers make concessions, and that is certainly the case if they have to buy a lot of additional product (feed or manure).
