19 April 2022 - Klaas van der Horst

Nothing will change for Olympia's 180 employees and 170 suppliers. Existing agreements and conditions will be respected, both parties indicate.

Families Van Impe and Huygh
Olympia is a family business of the Van Impe and Huygh families. Executive director Luc van Impe: "There are strong similarities in the history and philosophy of Olympia and Royal A-ware. A-ware is therefore the perfect party for us. The new step creates a strong financial basis that ensures stability and guarantees the continuity of Olympia. We are confident that this is the best choice for our employees, suppliers and customers."

Supplement for A-ware's Belgian activities
For A-ware, the acquisition is an addition to the existing activities in Belgium and creates a strong basis for further growth. Jan Anker, CEO of Royal A-ware: "Olympia dairy products have traditionally been a household name in Belgium and are known for their good quality. Thanks to the investment program of the Huygh family, Olympia has been greatly modernized in recent years and is ready for further growth. We are pleased that Luc and Marc Van Impe and Kris Huygh will remain associated with Olympia with their expertise."

Olympia produces a wide range of dairy products, mainly for the food service industry, but the company also undertakes contract manufacturing for others. Milk is collected every day from suppliers in the provinces of Flemish and Walloon Brabant, East Flanders, Hainaut and Namur. According to the company itself, this concerns a volume of approximately 100 million kilos.

Loss-making years
According to filed documents, Olympia has an annual turnover of around €70 million, but has been loss-making for a number of years. This started before the corona pandemic, but it certainly did not do the company any good.
