Our eastern neighbors suspect that beef farmers have delayed deliveries due to rising prices. More animals have been delivered in recent weeks, which is now putting more pressure on prices. The meat trade in Germany also complains about the fact that the increased purchasing prices cannot be fully passed on. There is particular pressure on the prices for beef bulls.

The Netherlands remains stable
There is currently no pressure on prices in the Netherlands. Prices have been stable in recent weeks and have risen again in recent weeks. In the trade it is noted that slaughterhouses are still happy to accept the cattle offered, both bulls and cows for slaughter. So there is no pressure on prices. However, it is pointed out that prices in Germany have so far been at a somewhat higher level. Although the increases in the past period were strong, the meat trade has so far been able to pass them on reasonably well.

At the cattle market in Bunnik, prices for slaughter bulls (R) again rose by a few cents. The average quotation now amounts to €5,03 per kilo of slaughtered weight. Cows for slaughter (R) are now paid €5,10 per kilo of slaughtered weight. First quality sausage cows are now priced at €3,93 per kilo.

European production 0,9% smaller this year
According to an short-term outlook of the European Commission for agricultural markets, beef production in the Union will shrink by 0,9%. Consumption remains stable at approximately 10,2 kilos per person. Trade (both import and export) in beef with third countries is expected to increase again as a result of the diminishing impact of the corona pandemic.
