Milcobel has temporarily halted the production and delivery of consumer cheeses at the Moorslede site due to a listeria contamination in one of the brine baths. It is emphasized that no unsafe products have reached the trade or consumer.
On the European rapid alert no warning has therefore been issued for consumer products. The contamination emerged during internal quality checks in one of the seven brine baths, which had recently been filled with fresh brine. Listeria contamination was less than a tenth of the legal standard. Milcobel nevertheless took immediate measures.
'Resume production quickly'
Additional disinfections have been carried out, extensive analyzes have been made of the products and products with any form of contamination are immediately destroyed. According to the latest measurements, no listeria has been identified. Milcobel therefore hopes that production and deliveries can be resumed at the end of this week.
For customers, the measures may cause some inconvenience, because all cheeses from the Moorslede factory had to be tested first. Due to the delayed delivery, production had to be stopped for a few days. Because of the slower discharge, no more fresh cheese could be added. Milcobel does indicate that cheeses are still being delivered from the warehouse in Bruges.
