Just like last week, cheese remains the most stable factor in the dairy market. A number of prices continue to rise slightly, the rest remain stagnant or fall slightly. Powder and butter prices are losing ground, as is liquid dairy.
The most notable movement in the cheese market is the slight price drop in the mozzarella market. This product is still well valued above average, but the supply is increasing and the demand seems somewhat calmer. The DCA quotation for Gouda foil cheese is stable, the quotation for Edam is rising slightly and is therefore moving towards that of Gouda. The Cheddar price continues to rise.
Milk powder shows a downward trend
Prices for milk powders have fallen almost across the board. Whole milk powder is the exception. Although the price for this product is largely a 'calculation price', because whole milk powder is hardly traded on the free market today. The price decrease of both skimmed milk powder and whey powder is based on various factors, such as the still relatively high price compared to the world market (although the euro has weakened considerably), a larger dairy supply and the decreased import figures from China.
The butter price has fallen again after a week of increases; more or less in the rhythm of the room quotation. The price of the latter only moves slightly further up and/or down. The quotation of butter has fallen by €135 per ton this week. Cream drops in price by €300. One week earlier, the cream quotation rose by €200 and the butter quotation rose by €10 per tonne.
The quotations of the other liquid products also decreased. Just like with skimmed milk concentrate, the price also went down for skimmed milk (the non-thickened variant). The same happened with raw milk.
Spot milk in the Netherlands holds up better
The prices for spot milk in the Netherlands and Germany have held up better than those in France. From there, product is already offered in a range of €40 to €44 per 100 kilos. After all, it is the period of a supply peak; however strong or limited that may be. But not every processor can handle French milk. This in connection with the requirements of the customer.
