Trade in roughage continues smoothly

24 May 2022 - Stef Wissink

The trade in roughage is going very well according to most traders. The slightly wetter weather conditions do not seem to affect the market yet.

The straw market certainly doesn't seem worse over the past week. The wetter weather has given demand some momentum left and right. However, straw is still readily available and the indicative prices remain unchanged at €130 per tonne.

Balance
Last week's rain has not yet reduced the interest of livestock farmers in good grass and corn silages. Both products remain in high demand and the indicative prices remain at the same level. Grass silage is still at €75 per tonne and silage maize at €80 per tonne. It is possible that a longer, more volatile period and correspondingly good growing conditions could put some pressure on demand.

The demand for slew has also recently been considerable after a somewhat quieter period. Prices are stable at €140 per tonne. Meadow hay (€185 per ton), meadow meadow (€135 per ton) and perennial ryegrass (€130 per ton) are also trading stable.

Beer spent grains trade briskly
The spent grain trade is lively and the market appears to be well balanced. Although insiders note that the supply is currently considerable, the demand is at least as good. Livestock farmers order quickly and the complete range is therefore well taken up by the market. With the sky-high raw material prices, it remains interesting to calculate rations. The indicative price for spent grains remains unchanged this week at €3,55 per percent dry matter.
