Deprecation-free lease keeps the phosphate trade busy

25 May 2022 - Klaas van der Horst

In the phosphate trade it is largely a calm trade. That is not so good either, because in general little happens that now encourages dairy farmers to make large purchases or sales. Leasing small batches of phosphate rights up to 100 kilos does, however, appear to be popular. It is skim-free and helps to make adjustments here and there.

Prices are now quite stable. For small batches of skimming-free allowances, between €16,00 and €16,50 per allowance is paid. Trade is calmer for the purchase and sale of consignments of phosphate rights and the average price appears to have fallen slightly in recent weeks.

The average dairy farmer has not been thinking much about phosphate rights in recent weeks. There was plenty of other work to do. But according to traders, that is not the only reason why the market is so calm and only slightly declining. Stoppers are not very inclined to put rights on the market now, because the government's purchase and termination schemes have not yet been fully developed.
