More turnover, slightly lower profit for Vreugdenhil

June 2, 2022 - Klaas van der Horst

Vreugdenhil Dairy Foods achieved a 6,5% higher turnover last year than in 2020, exceeding €800 million for the first time. Profits turned out slightly lower, with processing volume more or less unchanged.

In total, turnover amounted to €832 million, compared to €781 million in 2020. The balance sheet total increased from approximately €330 million to €390 million. The group result after tax fell from €20,8 million to €15,3 million.

CEO Albert de Groot is satisfied with these results. He speaks of a successful year. This also resulted in a good milk price of €39,44 per 100 kilos, which puts the company 'in the upper regions of the milk prices paid in the Netherlands in 2021', as Vreugdenhil's CEO observes.

Further growth expected
De Groot expects that Vreugdenhil Dairy Foods will continue to grow healthily this year. Last year, processing remained fairly stable compared to the year before, at around 1,4 billion kilos. This was partly due to the replacement of a powder tower in Gorcum.

In the meantime, the company started looking for new dairy farmers. That has yielded results. Dozens of suppliers have now made the switch. The recruitment campaign is still ongoing.

Vreugdenhil made €16,5 million in investments last year, including to meet sustainability objectives. "By 2050 we want to be CO2 neutral throughout the entire chain, from grass to glass," says co-owner Jan Vreugdenhil. "That is a major challenge, but by leading the way, we remain competitive and reduce our impact on the environment, so that we can also be successful in the chain in the longer term."

Supervisory Board
Due to the steady growth of the company, it also became necessary last year to comply with the provisions of a two-tier company and to install a supervisory board. He took office last October and consists of Arnout Traas (chairman), José Matthijsse and Geert van Iwaarden.
