The turnover of DMK, Germany's largest milk processor, remained stable last year at €5,5 billion. The cooperative paid out more milk money to the members. Including supplementary payment, they received €3,83 more than in 2020. The total milk price was slightly above the German average, something that DMK has to fight hard for every year.
CEO Ingo Müller announced the figures at the company's annual meeting. In total, the members received an average milk price of €35,88 per 100 kilos (compared to €32,05 per 100 kilos in 2020). DMK's current payment price in June 2022 is now €52,00 per 100 kilos. That is based on 4,0% fat. The company's net result amounted to €27 million. That is more than €2 million more than the year before.
6,3 billion kilos processed
According to the annual report, DMK has 5.178 members and processed 6,3 billion kilos of milk last year. This happened in more than twenty production locations, spread across Germany, the Netherlands and Russia. DMK has grown in the German consumer market, particularly in the sales of cottage cheese and cheese. DMK is also doing good business in the sale of dairy substitutes. The German cooperative is busy becoming more sustainable, like almost all dairy companies.
One of the main pain points from this point of view is the group stables or other types where the cows are tethered. In Northern Germany it has almost disappeared. This is even more common elsewhere in Germany. At DMK, almost a quarter (22,7%) of dairy farmers still have a stable with tethers. However, they only account for a limited pool of milk: 3,9% of the total supply. This year, all member companies must comply with a climate check as an indicator of their sustainability.
