The Belgian Laiterie des Ardennes (LDA) hopes to process 1,2 billion kilos of milk this year. This increases the milk supply by about 12 percent compared to the previous year. Even then, the supply increased by an almost equal percentage.
The company reports this in the filed annual report. In 2021, LDA processed 1.067 million liters of milk, compared to 965 million liters in the previous year. The number of members also grew from 1.919 dairy farmers in 2020 to 2.078 in 2021.
Membership
The new membership growth is mainly at the expense of industry peer Milcobel and will continue this year as well. The milk is processed in the factories in Recogne and Baudour. A new mozzarella factory was opened in the latter place at the end of last year. Milk from other cooperatives is also processed in Recogne.
LDA also experienced considerable growth in terms of turnover last year. A total of €697 million was sold, which was more than 15% more than in the previous year. Gross profit increased from €2,75 million to €5,9 million. More important for the cooperative was the higher milk price that could be paid. This increased from €33,54 in 2020 to €38,63 per 100 liters in 2021, which amounts to more than 15% more milk money.
