The electric car has been commonplace for some time, but the emergence of electric trucks is still in its infancy. Dairy cooperative Fonterra sees a future in it and has a first with the first electric RMO.
Fonterra was symbolically handed over the truck today by the minister of energy in New Zealand. Fonterra is adding the Milk-E, as the electric RMO is called, to the fleet with the aim of reducing CO2 emissions. Fonterra also thinks it will save fuel costs in the long run.
The electric RMO with trailer can transport approximately 28.000 liters. The tractor can drive approximately 140 kilometers with a trailer and a full battery. The battery can be changed in two minutes. The Milk-E is now in a pilot phase. If the Milk-E likes it, the company may continue with it.
