US dairy farmers ramp up production
For the first time this year, milk production in the United States is showing growth figures again. The dairy export figures are also very successful. What are the expectations?

Milk production in June amounted to 8,22 million tons. This is an increase of 0,3% compared to the same period last year. Although the percentage plus is small, this was nevertheless the first time in 2022 that milk production in the US showed growth figures again.

The growth is due to dairy farmers keeping more cows. Compared to May, the number of dairy cows in the US increased by 4.000 to 8,93 million. This has broken the downward trend. The increase is most likely related to the sharp rise in milk prices, just like in Europe. In May, the American milk price (class 3) was converted over €55 per 100 kilos.
While the milk price is breaking records and is still rising, the feed prices are falling. This is a result of the more relaxed grain market worldwide. These ingredients seem to foreshadow a further increase in milk production in the coming months.
Increase in export figures
For American dairy exporters, the increase in milk quantity is a desirable development. Due to good sales opportunities on the world market, they exported 210.000 tons in May. This represents an increase of 18% compared to the same month last year. This was also the highest monthly volume in the past two years. Milk powder sales and cheese export figures in particular show growth. In addition to excellent export opportunities, the analysts describe domestic dairy consumption as good.
