The Dutch milk supply also remained above the level of the same month last year in July. Not only has a larger volume of milk been supplied, but the number of kilograms of fat has also increased. The supply does decrease seasonally.
This is evident from figures from RVO. It indicates a milk supply of 1.160.940.000 kilos of milk for July this year, compared to a supply of 1.139.880.000 kilos in July 2021. This amounts to an increase of 1.85% compared to July last year. The fat content did not move completely, as it increased by only 0,94% compared to July last year. The average fat percentage per kilo of milk fell from 4,25% in June to 4,20% in July.
Supply difference not very big
The significantly higher milk prices that livestock farmers receive undoubtedly play a role in the better supply figures. It pays to milk a little extra. However, the difference in supply compared to last year is not so great that it can be said that the high milk price now provokes a lot of extra production.
The average basic milk price increased by about €3,00 in July compared to the previous month, to €58,67 per 100 kilos. In addition, compound feed prices appear to decrease slightly in the coming months. That's where the compound feed price indicator anyway up. Due to the warm and dry weather of recent weeks, the availability of fresh roughage from the company's own farm is decreasing, while other costs are also increasing.
In neighboring countries, such as Germany and Belgium, milk supplies are already declining sharply due to the drought.
